The Axon Bill is Bad for Scottsdale SB1543

(Video below)

In November 2024, the rogue Scottsdale City Council approved a huge development for the Axon corporation. The headquarters had already been approved 4 years prior. But Axon never built it.

So the lame duck council (after losing all of their re-election campaigns), voted to change zoning to allow Axon to build a “campus” with 1900 dwelling units, a hotel, and restaurants on the property that was clearly restricted to industrial use when Axon purchased the property.

Outrage in the community, resulted in a successful petition drive. 26,000 signatures were gathered on the petition. A special election would be held for Scottsdale voters to decide the future of that project. The citizens should be able to challenge that decision, as our state constitution provides.

In an effort to over turn the will of the voters, Axon went to the State Legislature and persuaded some Representatives to support a new Law, SB1543, that would change the rules for them. It would allow any company (in Scottsdale, Glendale, Gilbert, and Chandler) with a corporate headquarters, to build as many apartments as they want, with no City zoning restrictions.

It is appalling that one company, using bait and switch tactics, is holding Scottsdale hostage with whether or not they will remain in Arizona.  Let the voices be heard. Contact the Speaker of the House Montenegro  and the Senate President Warren Petersen . Tell them to vote no on SB1543.
