Reporter: Carrie McCulloch
Post: The meeting opened with President Greer sharing her experience shadowing a student at STMS, saying, “God bless the teachers.” A reminder of the incredible work educators do every day.
Superintendent Dolezal outlined three key goals for the year: safety, communication, and fiscal responsibility.
Dr. Pletnick presented a revised budget, aiming to carry forward over $1 million into the 2026–2027 school year. He also shared updates from all operational departments.
Each department reported drastic reduced staffing:
- Nutrition is balancing federal mandates with creating meals kids will eat.
- Technology is working with outdated equipment.
- Facilities are on-call 24/7 while understaffed.
- Finance ensures funds are well-managed.
- Transportation is facing a 39.6% drop in drivers, with staff doing multiple jobs and working to resolve ongoing issues. Despite enrollment, transportation is still responsible for the same large geographic area. Board Member Moore asked about increasing compensation; Dr. Pletnick will look into funding options.
Public Comments included:
- A veteran bus driver retiring after 30+ years due to unsustainable conditions.
- Several families voiced concerns regarding the non-renewal of Coach Gianni’s contract, urging the board to consider his leadership, continued employment as a teacher, and track record.
